Two homes can get very different quotes for the same air conditioner, and none of the reasons show up in an online price list. This page sets out what actually moves the number when we quote split system installation on the Gold Coast, and what our own recent work has cost, so you can read any quote and know what you are paying for.
Why two quotes can look so different
The unit is only part of the job. Where the indoor and outdoor units sit, how far the pipework has to run, what the wall is made of and whether the circuit can carry another load all change the hours and the materials. Those things differ house to house, which is why we quote at your place rather than over the phone.
What sets the price
Room size and the unit that suits it. A bedroom and an open living space need different machines at different prices. Oversizing is not an upgrade either. A unit that is too large cycles on and off more than it should and does less to take the moisture out of the air, so we size to the room, its glass and how much sun it gets.
Pipe run and where the units sit. A back to back install, with the outdoor unit straight behind the indoor one, sits at the bottom of the range. Every extra metre of pipework, and every awkward outdoor position such as wall brackets, a roof platform or a tight side passage, adds material and hours.
The wall, and the power. Timber frame and plasterboard is straightforward to core and mount. Double brick, block or a rendered wall takes longer. On power, a small split can sometimes share an existing circuit, though most units want their own. If a new circuit or switchboard work is needed we are the electricians as well, so it stays one quote and one visit, but it is real work and it shows in the number.
How many units you are installing. Units installed in the same visit share the setup and the travel, so a package of two or three rooms is quoted differently to three separate bookings. If the house needs several rooms done, tell us up front and we will quote the lot.
What's included
The unit itself, sized to the room. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is the line we install most.
Mounting, refrigerant pipework, the condensate drain and the electrical connection.
A dedicated circuit where the unit needs one, wired by our own licensed electricians. QLD Electrical Licence 81470.
Vacuum, pressure test and commissioning under our ARC refrigerant handling licence, L171935, then a walkthrough of the controls before we leave. Workmanship guaranteed.
Supply and install through us usually works out cheaper than buying the unit retail and paying someone to fit it. We buy at trade pricing, and one company stands behind both the unit and the installation.
What a split usually costs here
Small room on a straightforward back to back install: roughly $1,500 to $2,200, supplied and installed.
Bedroom or mid-size room: most land between $2,200 and $3,500.
Living area or large room, or any install with a long pipe run, an awkward outdoor position or a new circuit: typically $3,500 to $6,000.
Every figure above includes GST and covers both the unit and the installation. They come from our own split system quotes and jobs between January 2025 and July 2026, and they assume a single storey home, a standard wall, a unit supplied by us and a Gold Coast address from Tweed Heads through Southport and Robina up to Coomera and Hope Island.
